The fact is we still need journalists since they provide credible information with relevant sources and yes Lisa Buyer stated how social media has become the overall influencer but think about when journalism combines with social media to provide credible and easy accessible information how effective it will be for everyone. Journalism will forever remain important through out the digital age.
I totally agree with you Sol, we need journalists even though social media has been established it's just a platform for the verbose, uninformed and opinionated we need journalists because they are the professionals in the field who provide unbiased information from credible sources.
ReplyDeleteSPJ Code of Ethics even state how the role of journalists is more credible and important ,they provide factual statements that can be proven at all times ,well social media is too opinionated as you stated and we cant rely on it .I am glad that we both agree on that.

Journalists play an important role in keeping news fresh and updated, as well as from a great human perspective. Great angle on the argument of whether journalists are still relevant or not. ReplyDeleteI actually disagree, Since everything is moving onto digital space journalists won't be needed anymore. Smartphones have provided a way for us to browse the internet and choose what we want to read and when. We are slowly moving away form the traditional method into the digital space.

Sometimes Digital media can't be trusted and it limited but if we see the same news in Newspaper we can get in depth information. So I still believe that we need journalist. But journalist need to find a way of making Digital and Traditional media work together as one.
